Winchester Model 1885 Special Single Shot High Wall Target Rifle with Swiss Butt
Manufactured in 1891. The special order part-octagon size 3 barrel is marked with the two line Winchester address followed by "32-40" at the breech, all marked on the top barrel flat. The barrel is equipped with a German blade front sight and an adjustable buckhorn rear sight, with the upper tang having a Vernier sight base only. The lower tang is marked with the 1879 patent date and the serial number. Blued barrel with casehardened action. The action has a scarce single set trigger. The deluxe checkered walnut Schnabel forearm and pistol grip stock have an ebony forend tip and ebony grip insert. The stock has a raised cheekpiece and is fitted with a nickel plated Swiss buttplate which incorporates the square top tang. No factory letter is available to writer at time of description to verify any of the above mentioned features.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 60% of the faded original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with some minor spotting. The action has mottled brown-gray patina. The buttplate has an attractive even aged brass patina. The wood is also very fine with some minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically fine.
