Winchester Model 1885 Shot High Wall Target Rifle with Swiss Butt
This Winchester an example of a customized High Wall Special Single Shot target rifle. The rifle is fitted with a heavy number 4 barrel with an adjustable front globe sight, no provisions for a rear sight and a mid-range tang mounted peep sight. The rifle has custom double set triggers and a lever with elongated loop and a single spur. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address with "32-40 W.C.F." at the breech and a gold inlaid band around the breech end. The upper tang is marked with the three line patent, maker, trade mark information. The bottom barrel flat just ahead of the forearm is marked with a small "4" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang over a "S 30". All blue finish with casehardened lever and mounted with a replacement deluxe checkered forearm with ebony forend insert and straight grip stock with cheekpiece and Swiss buttplate.

Condition: Refinished and customized with the barrel retaining most blue finish with some high edge wear. The receiver retains 50% dark blue finish mixed with a dark patina with some minor pitting on the left side. The lever shows some dark case color, much of the casehardening pattern with some silver gray patina and pitting. The buttplate has a smooth dark patina. The wood is very fine with most custom varnish remaining, a few minor dings and handling marks, and crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
