Antique Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall Single Shot Lever Action Rifle, #714, .32 Long CF cal., 28'' #2 octagonal barrel having dovetailed blade front and notched rear sights marked on top flat with the Winchester name and New Haven address in two lines and ''32 Long'' at breech; ''thick-side'' receiver is marked with the 1879 patent date on lower tang and serial number at bottom front; serpentine operating lever; oil-finished walnut forend having a buffalo horn inlay on its Schnabel tip, and buttstock with steel crescent buttplate. Mfg'd 1886. Condition is good to very good, the barrel retaining no original blue but an overall gunmetal gray with scattered discoloration, and pitting mainly confined to the bottom and side flats in two 4'' areas at muzzle and midway down its length, and another 1.5'' area ahead of the forend, the balance a gunmetal gray-brown. Stocks with nice grain and color and dings/scrapes commensurate with use and age. Action is smooth; bore is dirty but with defined rifling. Est.: $500-$850. (Antique)
