Winchester Model 1876 open top rifle in .45-75 caliber with 28” octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, serial number 476. The rifle shows 30% to 50% original blue drifting to a patina with some scattered erosion andpinprick pitting. The barrel address is good and the 1876 markings on tang are also good. The wood shows some dings, mars, and scratches but is generally good overall. The rifle retains the early reinforced toe on the butt plate and early hammer. The stock is carved with two initials in block letters like a brand one is H and the other is M on reverse side of stock. The rifle shows original to the period sights in the correctpositions. The wood to metal fit is very good and the action works well. The bore is good and shows just normal use. A factory letter which is included confirms features and received in the warehouse September 18, 1877and shipped from the warehouse September 19, 1877 with 10 other model 1876’s to order number 9971. 3 digit early Winchester’s are always desirable and the open top is very hard to find as many were converted to dust
