Winchester Model 1876 Third Model Lever Action Rifle, #49101, .45-75 W.C.F. cal., 28" octagon barrel, half-magazine, blue finish, smooth walnut forend and straight grip stock, steel crescent buttplate with trap and 5-piece cleaning rod, replacement adjustable globe front sight, and ladder rear sight, with a Vernier sight added at the tang. Caliber is marked on the brass cartridge elevator. Barrel with two-line "King's Improvement", "October 16, 1860" last patent date address. Mfg'd 1885. Rifle is in fine overall condition. Barrel retains approx. 93%-95% original blue with a crisp address, showing scattered light scratches and edge wear. Receiver retains approx. 90% original high polish blue, with light scratching and scattered frosted patina, particularly on the lower left side. Sideplates display mild plum colored toning and scratching, with a few larger scratches to the left plate. Brass cartridge elevator shows light toning. Lever retains approx. 40% case colors; colors on the hammer are vivid and show little wear. Loading gate is bright fire blue and has one spot of wear near the front edge. Buttplate shows thinning and toning, especially at the heel and toe; forend cap has a mottled appearance and retains less than 50% blue. Stock is in fine condition, with scattered moderate indentations and scratches, showing moderate thinning to the forend, and an added coat of oil on the buttstock. Action is crisp and functions well. Bore is bright with very good+, defined rifling. Factory letter confirms the octagon barrel and half-magazine; barrel length is not specified. Shipped October 08, 1885. Est.: $8,000-$10,000. (Antique)
