Winchester Model 1876 Rifle
Winchester Model 1876 Rifle. 28" octagon barrel is chambered for the 45-60 caliber and has a fair at best bore with frosting and some pitting. The top of the barrel is marked "Winchester's Repeating Arms. New Haven, CT" over "Kings Improvement – Patented March 29, 1866. October 16, 1860." This rifle with serial number 10,271 was made in 1880 and it has a special order ladder rear sight marked "1876" and graduated from 2 to 10 on the right side. The front sight is a brass Rocky Mountain blade. The barrel and full length magazine tube are mostly a silver and splotchy brown mix. The receiver has some fairly deep pitting but still has some blue on the loading gate and protected areas around the raised sideplates. The wood stocks are sound but have numerous dents and dings. The lever droops when not locked down but the action appears to work fine. The dust cover has the checkered oval panel and a screwed on guide rail.
Estimated Value$1,500 - 2,250.
