Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

This is an example of a Second Model 1876 carbine that was manufactured in 1882 and features the dust cover guide rail attached to the top of the receiver by two screws. Fixed blade front sight with a folding rear carbine sight graduated to 1,000 yards and marked "1876". The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line Winchester/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "CAL/45-60" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1876." and the serial number appears on the lower tang behind the lever. There is a saddle ring and stud mounted on the left side of the receiver and it is fitted with a full walnut forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate.

Fair. The metal surfaces have an artificial mottled grayish brown patina with scattered minor pitting. The heavily worn revarnished wood is fair with a couple chips absent from the upper edge of the forearm and there are a few gouges that have been sanded. The barrel band and forearm are a little loose. The stock shows numerous nicks, dings and a few minor cracks. The barrel address is partially obscured by pitting, otherwise the markings are clear. The action is fine.
