Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle
Manufactured in 1882, this is a Third Model rifle with the dust cover guide rail integrally machined to the receiver. Blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight. Ahead of the rear sight on the top barrel flat is marked "WINCHESTER'S- REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT / KING'S- IMPROVEMENT- PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.", "CAL 45-60" is marked at the breech and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "45-60". The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876" and the serial number appears on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and steel crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Very good. The magazine retains 20% of the original finish with areas thinning to a smooth brown patina. The barrel has a smooth grayish patina and the receiver shows strong dark original blue finish in protected areas with the balance a mottled brown patina. There is a small area of soldering between the barrel and magazine directly ahead of the forearm. The wood has had a coat of varnish applied some time ago, retaining most of the varnish, and remains good with a few deep scratches in the stock, a hole a 1/2" behind the lower tang and overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
