Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle, #1490, .45-75 cal., 28'' octagon barrel, set trigger, blue finish, standard smooth walnut stocks, with early 1st pattern thumbprint mortise cover on early detachable mount (most likely added at the return to factory in 1881), early non-foliate tang marking, and standard sporting leaf rear sight graduated from 100-1000 yards. Standing sporting front sight is present. Shipped to New York Sales Dept. of Winchester Repeating Arms Co., on May 8, 1878, with 49 other Model 1876s, order number 11779; returned by the New York Sales Dept. of Winchester on Sept. 1881, with 11 other Model 1876s; shipped from the warehouse on Dec. 26, 1884, order number 18228, with all features verified by factory letter. A copy of the ledger page is also provided. Mfg'd in 1878. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 90-95% original factory blue with light wear on upper tang. Case-hardened lever and hammer retain approx. 70% lightly muted hues. Scre!
w slots are straight and true. Set trigger functions as designed. Thumbprint dustcover fits impeccably, seemingly almost magnetic. Lifter shows very sharp corners showing little use.
