Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter
This Third Model 1876 rifle has the dust cover rail integrally machined as part of the receiver, blade front (bead absent) and sporting type rear sights ,and a full length magazine. The two included Cody Museum letters confirm the serial number, rifle configuration, caliber, round barrel and plain trigger, and state that the rifle was shipped from the warehouse on September 12, 1884 (order number 15328), but have different "received in the warehouse" dates. The 2001 dated letter has the date August 7, 1884, while the 2003 dated letter has the date August 22, 1884. The top of the barrel has the two line address/patent dates marking and "CAL. 40-60". The brass cartridge elevator is engraved "40-60" and the upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876". Smooth forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate with trapdoor.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel and magazine tube retain 20% faded original blue finish and the receiver also retains 20% original blue finish with the overall balance a mottled brown patina. he receiver has some minor spotting and pitting. The reoiled wood is also very good with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
