Manufactured in 1878, this extremely fine Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle has the dust cover guide rail integrally machined to the receiver, full length magazine, blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated from 2 to 10 and marked "1876" at the top. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two line address/King's improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "CAL 40-60" at the breech. The brass cartridge elevator is stamped "40-60" and the upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876." flanked by decorative foliate and the serial number is on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with steel forend cap, factory sling swivels and a crescent buttplate with buttstock compartment (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying copy of the factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, 40/60 caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger and that it was received in and shipped out of the warehouse on October 7, 1884 to order number 14647.

Extremely fine. The rifle retains 85% plus bright original blue finish with a smooth mottled gray patina on the magazine tube, edge wear, minor flaking on the receiver and buttplate as well as some pin prick type pitting on the left side of the receiver. The hammer retains most of the original case colors and the lever has a smooth mottled gray patina with strong traces of original case colors in the protected areas. The wood is very fine with almost all of the original varnish remaining on the stock, a pleasant hand rubbed patina on the forearm and overall a few minor dents and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. A truly exceptional Winchester Model 1876 Rifle!
