Manufactured in 1890. Third Model with integral dust cover rail, which features a blade front and two folding ladder rear sights, and there is a short range peep sight mounted on the tang. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/King's improvement patent dates and the top flat at the breech is marked "40-60 W.C.F.", the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "40-60" and the serial number appears on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate with compartment containing a four piece cleaning rod. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on October 28, 1890 and shipped from the warehouse with five other arms the next day on order number 19895. Comes with a single cavity iron bullet mold with wooden handles and marked "40-60 W.C.F." and a Winchester 40-60 W.C.F. reloading tool.

Condition: Refinished with most of the heavily buffed hot dip gunsmith blue finish remaining thinning to a smooth brown in areas. The magazine tube shows a number of small dents and overall there are a few minor scratches and dings. There is some minor pitting on the muzzle of the barrel. The wood is also refinished with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent. The tools are good with dark patina and some minor oxidation.
