Winchester Model 1876 Hawaiian musket in .45-75 caliber early model with thumbprint dust cover and ultra-rare original cutlass bayonet with scabbard believed to of been made for the palace guards of King Kamehameah, serial number 28950. The metal surfaces show good strong traces of blue and case hardening within a brown patina and scattered erosion and light to moderate pinprick pitting. The stocks show some dings, mars, scratches and dents consistent with military storage and use and there is some old repairs to the right side of the butt stock using inlaid wood that was well done a long time ago. The barrel address is light but legible and all original small parts including sights and cleaning rod which is included. This ultra-rare cutlass bayonet retains its original scabbard and is currently the only specimen known to Hawaiian and West Coast collectors who have made a specialty of studying these 1876 Hawaiian arms. The general consensus of these collectors is that this rare deluxe brass handled cutlass bayonet was only made for the personal guards of the King and after extensive research not another specimen could be found in a museum or collection and this may be the only surviving example. The action is good, the bore is good and un-cleaned overall as found. Keith and Lori Candee Collection. Est.: $8,000-$16,000.
