Winchester Model 1873 special order rifle in .44-40 caliber, factory engraved with 26” octagon barrel, button magazine, deluxe checkered pistol grip stocks, rifle butt plate, set trigger, veneer tang sight with adjustable windage front sight, serial number 166700. The left side of the frame shows the initials V.A. intertwined and the right side of the frame shows a standing elk surrounded by typical factory scrolls in a fancy pattern. The barrel shows approximately 50% to 70% original blue that is toning to a natural brown patina. The frame and forend show a light gray patina finish with some slight areas of colors mixed in. The metal surfaces are good with some minor pitting and erosion. The stocks have been lightly refreshed and checkering professionally sharpened slightly but are still at least very good. The wood to metal fit is also good. The markings are clear and edges fairly crisp. The action is good and the bore is fair to good. No factory letter available at time of cataloging but we have known this gun over 30 years in the collecting circles and it is absolutely guaranteed factory engraved and will letter as such.
