Winchester Model 1873 special order rifle in .38-40 caliber, 24” octagon barrel, half magazine, blue and case hardened finish, 1x stock, graduated peep and tang sight, shotgun butt, serial number 135582, shipped from the warehouse 11/2/83 with order number 8457, features confirmed by information sheet from Buffalo Bill Historical center. The rifle remains in very good plus to near fine original condition, the barrel shows approximately 80% to 90% original blue that is toning slightly with some wear at the edges, minor marks, slight scratches and normal beginning age. The frame shows 75% to 85% case hardening that is still very colorful and just starting to drift to silver at the edges with some beginning staining, light erosion, and very minor pinprick pitting. The hammer, lever and forend cap show 50% to 70% case hardening that is still colorful and just starting to go slightly silver. The stocks show a good grain and most of their original varnish, some slight scratches, minor darkening and beginning age with great wood to metal fit. The dust cover and loading gate show 75% to 85% bright original blue and the inside of the tang and top of the frame shows some beautiful and vivid case hardening. The action is good and the bore is very good plus to near fine and still bright. A very attractive case hardened 73 with a great deal of condition that would be expensive to upgrade.
