Winchester Model 1873 short rifle in .44-40 caliber with 20” octagon barrel, full magazine and rifle butt, serial number 692194 B. The short rifle shows side barrel address and side caliber marking as is correct for a short rifle in thelate period. The band and sights measure correctly with short forend. The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina with traces of finish mixed in and some light to slightly heavy scattered erosion and pitting. The markings aregood and visible. The stocks are fair to good showing many dings, mars, scratches and initials and brands carved deeply into the right side of the stock. The rear sight is missing. The caliber marking on brass lifter is fully visible. Theaction is working but the bore is poor. This survivor of the old West probably went south as they were favored in Mexico and the southern latitudes. Post 1898. Est.: $800-$1600
