Winchester Model 1873 lever action special order rifle, .44 W.C.F. caliber, 24” octagon barrel, S/N 35292, wood stocks, blued finish, half magazine and cleaning rod in butt trap. This rifle is in overall very good to fine condition showingWinchester proof marks on the barrel and receiver at the breech indicating return to factory at some time; majority of blued finish remains on the gun, the bore is very good to fine, the action is crisp and the markings are sharp. The wood stocks are very good + with better-than-average graining in the butt stock. A factory letter accompanies this ’73 but in addition to confirming the half magazine and plain trigger, it states the gun was originally received and shipped from the warehouse on September 3, 1879, with a 26” barrel and case hardened (difference possibly explained by the return to factory proofs or simply a error in the recording of features in the factory records). (Antique). Est.: $1,400-$2,800.
