.44-40 Win SN: 495911 Special Order lever action carbine marked "The Daisy Carbine" on left side of the barrel over the chamber. This was a special order carbine for Australian dealer F. Lassetter & Co of Sydney. This carbine is pictured and referenced by serial number on p476-477 of James D Gordon's book "Winchester's New Model of 1873 - A Tribute (Volume II)". The book states that this is the only known remaining carbine, and all "Daisy" rifles and carbines are recorded in Winchester factory records. Included letter from Cody Firearms Museum does reference "Daisy". The two volume set by Gordon is also included with this carbine, manufactured circa 1895. Features 19" round barrel, half magazine, blade front & ladder rear sights, sliding dust cover, lever lock, butt trap with sliding door, straight wristed smooth walnut stock, walnut forend, saddle ring, carbine buttplate. Bore is fair condition, a bit dark, lightly pitted throughout, with good rifling. Metal surfaces are a medium brownish gray, mottled on barrel, traces of original blue in protected areas. Markings are generally sharp and readable, with exception of caliber marking on bottom of brass cartridge lifter being mostly eroded. Wood is good condition, some oil staining where wood meets metal, with fair fit to metal, some evidence of previous sanding (slight shrinkage or loss at tangs and at toe).
