Winchester Model 1873 S.R.C. in .44-40 caliber made 1882 with unique markings, S/N 92265A. This carbine show R.I.C. hand engraved at the top of the breech for Royal Irish Constabulary and the left side of the receiver marked “W. Morton & Son, Cork, Ireland with British proofs. The carbine is in very good plus condition with generous trace of original blue and a browning patina. The markings and edges are good with some minor pitting and erosion. The wood is also good to very good with normal rack and storage marks, swivel type eyelets for hook type sling, original carbine sight and small parts, bright bore with good strong rifling. This is the only R.I.C. marked carbine we have seen in our nearly 50 year careerand a knowledgeable European dealer felt this was a “special Forces” arm for SWAT type applications in the 19th century such as gold shipments and prisoner transfer.
