Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina. The wood is also good with a long deep scratch on the left side of the stock, and overall some minor gouges, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine. A solid example of a Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring carbine in the scarce 38-40 caliber.
