Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle
Manufactured in 1885. This is an example of a Third Model variation with the distinctive integral dust cover rail machined to the top of the receiver. It has the standard two line barrel flat address/King's improvement patent dates marking ahead of the adjustable buckhorn rear sight and "44 W.C.F." at the breech. Faint traces of "44 CAL" remain on the brass cartridge elevator and "MODEL 1873" is on the upper tang. German silver blade front sight and full length magazine tube. Nicely figured smooth walnut straight grip stock and forearm with steel forend cap and steel crescent buttplate with compartment.

Very good. The barrel and magazine have a smooth once cleaned and touched up brown patina with some patches of darker patina. The frame retains some traces of original blue in the protected areas with an overall gray patina. The buttplate has a smooth gray patina with extensive deep pitting. The forearm has a hairline crack on the underside, otherwise the refinished wood has some minor dings and scratches. The dust cover is frozen in the opened position, otherwise action is fine.
