The Second Model 1873 carbine receiver was manufactured in 1881 and has the dust cover guide rail screwed to the receiver and drilled and tapped for a saddle ring on the left side (filler screws are installed). The rifle length octagon barrel has a full length magazine, German silver blade front sight and a buckhorn rear sight, with the two line address/patent dates marking on the top flat. There is no caliber marking. The upper tang is stamped "MODEL 1873" and the lower tang has the serial number. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with metal forend cap and crescent buttplate with compartment (four piece cleaning rod included). With a box of UMC .44 caliber cartridges with green label.

Condition: Very fine as partailly refinished. The rifle retains 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with some very scattered minor pitting and spotting. The hammer and lever retain 40% original case colors with the balance a mottled gray patina. The refinished wood has some minor handling marks.
