Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine, #105039, .44-40 CF cal., 20'' barrel with block-blade front and adjustable sliding-leaf rear sights marked with the Winchester name and address, ''King's Improvement'' and patent dates in two lines ahead of rear sight; steel receiver with removable sideplates, right side loading port and sliding dustcover over top ejection port is marked ''Model 1873'' on top tang and serial number on extended lower tang; loop operating lever; two steel bands retaining under-barrel magazine tube and forend; oil-stained walnut forearm and buttstock having a carbine buttplate with sliding door opening to trap in butt containing steel cleaning rod. Mfg'd 1882. Condition is good, the metal parts having an overall cleaned gunmetal gray tone with scattered dings and discoloration (especially to barrel); the forend is sound with minor handling and use marks. Buttstock is poor with overall deep scrapes, pits and losses at comb and belly from filing and sanding. Action is sticky but functions; bore is dark with defined rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
