Winchester Model 1873 1st model rifle with thumb print dust cover in .44-40 caliber showing 24” round barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, serial number 18503 received in the warehouse May 15, 1876, shipped from thewarehouse, May 31, 1876 with 6 other model 1873’s to order number 6005 with factory letter verifying features and shipment date. The rifle remains in good to very good original condition showing 20% to 30%original blue mixed with a browning patina and there is some scattered light to moderate erosion. There are some areas of just beginning pinprick pitting and the barrel address is good. The rear of the frame showssome minor marks near the top. The stocks are good to very good with slight wear, minor losses and just normal use. The loading gate shows some bright original blue and the action is good and the bore is fair to good.A very acceptable 1873 thumb print dust cover rifle made and shipped shortly before the battle of the little Big Horn.
