Winchester Model 1866 rifle serial number 133256 factory letter confirms engraved, half gold, octagon barrel, received in the warehouse January 31, 1877 and shipped from the warehouse January 31, 1877 with 9 other arms to order number 8177. This exact rifle was used as an advertisement on the Las Vegas show bulletin for the 44th annual Antique Arms Show in 2005. This rifle remains in very good plus to near fine original condition with approximately 50% to 70% original blue on the barrel and magazine tube both evenly thinning and toning with sharp edges and good markings. The frame is also sharp and shows most of its original gold with just some slight losses at the edges and beginning normal age. The left side of the frame shows a panther or jaguar surrounded by typical factory scroll engraving. The stock shows a slight grain and is probably select or 1x and remains in good to very good condition with some dings and mars by the butt plate on the right rear side. Otherwise the stock is very good with just some normal scratches and use. The rifle is mounted with sling swivels which are the correct factory type. The action is good, the bore is very good and original sights are retained. It is very unusual to find 1866 Winchesters that are confirmed by factory letter. Keith and Lori Candee collection. Est.: $20,000-$40,000.
