Winchester Model 1866 carbine with no saddle ring marked .44 flat on the left side of the breach and showing P.W. proofs at the top of the frame and the rear of the barrel. Mounted with late steel carbine butt plate, blued hammer and lever and front band with integral sight. Serial number 36582. The barrel shows also a very late side address and the carbine is still in rim-fire caliber. This 66 shows no use since leaving the factory as the bore and interior are near mint. The frame is razor-sharp with almost no wear and shows a lovely brass patina. The stocks are fine to near excellent with just a couple of small handling marks and slight scratches. The combination of features with rare .44 flat marking leads us to believe that the factory used an early rifle frame to fill a late order. It is our belief that this carbine is original as it left the factory and not sent back. Just made at the end of production when the factory was shipping the old models south. Est.: $12,500 -$25,000.
