Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine
This is a solid example of a Winchester Third Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine that was manufactured in 1871. (These Pre-Custer battle model 1866 SRC's are highly desirable.) The carbine has a round barrel and full length magazine, front barrel band with integral sight blade, late pattern, non-adjustable leaf rear sight, sling ring on the left side of the frame and crescent brass buttplate with trap. The hammer spur has coarse knurling with no border. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEWHAVEN.CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866.OCTOBER 16 1860" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The serial number, "103988", is stamped on the lower receiver tang ahead of the trigger: "DS" is stamped between the serial number and the trigger. The carbine has the correct, Winchester, three-piece, steel, cleaning rod in the butt trap.

Very good. The barrel, magazine tube, barrel bands, loading laver and hammer have a deep brown patina. The surfaces have some scattered light pitting. The barrel markings are light but fully legible. The brass receiver and buttplate have an attractive, un-polished, patina. The overall condition of the receiver is very good with sharp edges and minimal dents and scratches. The buttplate is in very good condition with only moderate handling wear. The stock and forearm are in fair condition with heavy handling wear; the stock has several deep dents and scratches. This is a very good, attractive example of a Winchester Third Model 1866 Saddle Ring "Yellow Boy" Carbine.
