Manufactured in 1869. The top of the barrel is marked with "the two line address/King's improvement patent dates", with the serial number marked on the lower tang behind the trigger followed by an "L". This Second Model 1866 carbine has the distinctive single upper tang screw and receiver flare at the junction with the forearm. Blade front sight integral with the barrel band and two leaf rear sight. There is a saddle ring staple and ring on the left rear of the receiver and it is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a brass carbine buttplate with compartment containing a three piece cleaning rod.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a crisp smooth dark patina. The brass receiver has an attractive aged patina. The possibly replaced side plates are much lighter color then the receiver and fit very well. The wood is good with some white scuffs on the stock and overall scattered minor dings and scratches. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
