Manufactured in 1869 and subsequently rechambered to 44 CF. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/King's improvement patent dates and the serial number is marked on the lower tang behind the trigger. This Third Model 1866 carbine has the distinctive single upper tang screw, the moderately curved receiver and serial number stamped in block numerals behind the trigger. Blade front sight integral with the barrel band and two leaf rear sight. There is a saddle ring staple and ring on the left rear of the receiver and it is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a brass crescent buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a brownish patina with some moderate pitting. The receiver and buttplate have a dark natural looking patina. The wood is about good with a hole on the left side of the forearm behind the barrel band and stock rear of the wrist where there may have been sling swivels mounted at one time. The stock is a bit ill-fitting to the tangs and receiver and the toe has a large chip. The upper right side of the wrist has an old repair. The stock remains solid. The barrel marking is very faint. The action is fine.
