Winchester Model 1866 .44 RF SN: 149886
'Forth Model, Yellow Boy' Desirable antique lever action repeating rifle chambered in .44 Rimfire, manufactured circa 1878. The iconic 1866 was the first firearm to bear the Winchester name, it was produced in three different variations(carbine, rifle & musket), went through four model changes and production lasted from 1866-1898 with an estimated 170,101 rifles produced. This rifle features a blued 24 5/16" octagonal barrel stamped "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860", dovetailed German silver blade front sight, adjustable rear sporting sight, full-length magazine tube, brass frame, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, blued loading gate, smooth walnut forend with glossy finish & iron cap, and a straight grip shoulder stock with brass buttplate. The iron surfaces primarily exhibit a splotchy dark brown patina with the balance comprised of bare metal. The exception to this is the rear and the loading gate which have been replaced. The receiver displays a wonderful aged patina with the side plate bearing many dings & tooling marks, the rear of the receiver showing some file marks and two brass pins are visible on the left side. The buttplate is also a replacement and the wood stocks have been refinished. Action is sound, the bore is good, markings are good and the wood stocks are fair to good with small cracks, damage to the comb near the buttplate & are slightly shrunken. Condition is NRA Good. ***Antique Firearm***
