Winchester Model 1200 Slide Action Shotgun with Trench Handguard
These were the standard commercial Winchester Model 1200 shotguns produced during the late 1960s and mid early 1970s that were purchased/adapted for the military by adding a bayonet lug/heat shield to the barrel and U.S. markings added on the receiver. Most were destroyed after they were replaced by the Mossberg 500 series shotguns in the mid 1980s. The 21" barrel is equipped with a four hole pattern heat shield with the bayonet lug attachment on the front end (secured to the barrel with three cap head socket screws). The bayonet lug is unmarked. The top of the barrel and receiver have the standard Winchester circled "WP" proofmarks. The barrel is marked on the left side: "WINCHESTER / MADE IN U.S.A" followed by "WINCHESTER MODEL 1200-12GA.-2 3/4 CHAM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL. / CYL". The underside of the receiver is stamped with the serial number over "U.S.". The stock and pump handle are walnut with an oil finish that is fitted with a black plastic Winchester Repeating Arms buttplate and a canvas sling. Blue with parkerized bayonet adapter and heat shield, black anodized receiver, and jeweled bolt.
