Winchester Model 02 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle with Wood Case and an Assortment of Youth Shooting Items, including Winchester Junior Rifle Corps Medals and Papers

Produced circa 1914-1927. The Winchester Junior Rifle Corps was established in 1918, based on the principles of General George Wingate, who believed that youth rifle training was of benefit to the young person, who was taught responsibility and other virtues, and to the nation, which would have a larger pool of trained rifle shooters in event of emergency. The Corps was active until December of 1925, when Depression-related financial woes led to the program being merged with the National Rifle Association's Junior Marksmanship Program, which survives today as the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program. Blade front and notch rear sights, with the 2-line Winchester address, patent marks and caliber markings on the upper left side and a nickel finished bolt with knurled manual cocking knob. The receiver and barrel are manufactured as a single unit, with takedown/assembly regulated by a single thumbscrew on the underside of the forearm of the smooth straight wrist stock, which is fitted with a steel hand rest trigger guard and a checkered Winchester buttplate. When taken down, the rifle fits in the included hardwood case, which has the "WINCHESTER" logo painted on the lid and contains a boys-size canvas belt with "WJRC" buckle and a small unmarked pouch, a tan bandolier with decorative wooden "silver bullets", four boxes of Winchester 22 Long Rifle hollow point ammunition, cleaning rod, and a package of Winchester brand gun grease. Also included with the lot is a small hardwood plaque with mounted medals from the Easter Michigan Outdoor Pistol Association (Class-C, Team, 1939), two Winchester Junior Rifle Corps medals (Pro-Marksman and Marksman), one NRA Junior Division medal (Sharpshooter), nine Winchester gallery targets with advertising backs, and a WJRC membership card/record, unfilled.

Very fined, with 80% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina and scattered spotting and handling marks. The stock is fine, with some mild scuffs and varnish loss. The case is very good, with some glue-repaired cracks in the lid and a set of interior straps disconnected but included. The boxes are good, with some absent sections from the grease tube box, and the canvas items are good, with some minor staining.
