Winchester Hotchkiss bolt action carbine, 45-70 cal., 24” round barrel, blue finish, wood stock, #4175. This gun is in overall very good condition as reconditioned. According to a tag attached, factory records show the gun was originally shipped as a rifle but returned to the factory and there changed to a carbine and reshipped. Although no factory letter accompanied this gun from the consignor’s estate, it is also accompanied by a round red tag which states “Winchester ‘extreme rarity’ Hotchkiss Carbine” and appears to be formerly from the Edwin Pugsley collection, some of which was previously displayed at the Winchester Firearms Museum. This gun shows approx. 98% of the re-blue finish, nickel two piece top side of bolt, very good bore, crisp action, sharp markings and very good wood with just a couple of storage dings and mars. There is also a “5” stamped into the top of the butt stock just in front of the blued metal butt plate. Further research of this gun may prove additional verifiable provenance. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
