Winchester Hotchkiss 1st model carbine U.S. martially marked and accepted in .45-70 caliber serial number 1044. The carbine shows U.S. marking at breech along with V.P. inspectors marks and Eagle. Also inspections on bolt and small parts by Henry Nettleton famous Indian war inspector. The metal parts remain in good to very good condition with good traces of original finish mixed in a light brown and gray patina. The markings are sharp and the edges are crisp. The stock is good to very good with normal dings, mars, and scratches with 1 or 2 deep gouges with just normal wear. There is a slight outline of cartouche right behind the saddle ring. The action is good and the bore shows some wear but still bright. The forend retains a concealed ramrod in trap which is a feature unique to the 1st model. Est.: $2,500- $5,000.
