Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Takedown Lever Action Rifle
This is a very fine example of a Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1910. This special order takedown rifle has an octagon barrel, half-magazine, fancy grain walnut pistol grip stock with crescent steel buttplate and checkered forearm and pistol grip. (Not letter is available to writer at time of description.) The barrel is fitted with a rare Marble's Duplex front sight with fine gold bead on the fixed blade and a larger, ivory bead on a hinged post. A Marble's "Express' type rear sight with folding leaf is fitted in the barrel dovetail. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine and receiver with casehardened forearm cap, hammer, lever and buttplate. The pistol grip has a black, hard rubber, cap embossed with "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS". The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATUNG ARMS CO./ NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUG. 21. 1894." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: " - NICKEL STEEL BARREL - / ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines followed by the caliber designation "30 W.C.F." just ahead of the receiver. The oval Winchester "W/P" proof marks are stamped on the top of the barrel and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL1894/ - WINCHESTER - / TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF" in three lines. The serial number, "528230" is located on the underside of the receiver.

Very fine. The rifle retains 75% of the original blue finish overall. There is some edge wear on contact points of the barrel and receiver; most of the finish loss is concentrated on the takedown portion of the receiver. There are several very minor rust spots on the left side of the receiver. The case colors on the forearm cap and buttplate have faded to a silver gray patina. Half of the case colors remain on the lever and hammer. The fancy grain walnut stock and forearm have sharp checkering and retains much of the original oil finish. The stock and forearm are very fine in condition with only minor handling wear. The barrel and receiver markings are sharp. A small notch has been filed in the folding rear sight blade. This is a very fine example of a scarce Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Takedown Lever Action Rifle.
