This is a superb condition example showing beautiful deep barrel blue and fine nearly full coverage of only slightly ageing blue on the receiver, excellent walnut stock and forearm show no evidence of cleaning or sanding and retain very tight wood to metal fit with no chips or cracks, correct butt plate with trap for cleaning rods, mellow uncleaned brass lifter factory engraved “38 CAL,” retains original dust cover on receiver top- these often missing or replaced, exc. Winchester markings on the barrel and upper tang, 24" octagon barrel factory original buckhorn rear sight with original Winchester German silver blade front sight, tight mechanical condition, bright bore, a superior early 1873 Model Winchester, considered “The Gun That Won The West” with most surviving examples showing hard use and often abuse. It is extremely rare to find an octagon barrel 1873 with this kind of superior external finish remaining on all metal surfaces, shows no cleaning or alterations, clearly a fabulous example that is getting very hard to find on the collector market today.
