Aluminum. The patron saint of animals and the environment, Saint Francis of Assisi revered all living creatures. The Church of England was the established religion for the Virginia colony, so saint motifs were rarely encountered in 18th-century Williamsburg. They may, however, have been familiar to those gentry who visited the Governor's Palace, where several Roman Catholic paintings were displayed. This cast-aluminum statue with hand-applied finish adds a peaceful presence both indoors and out. 30" H 12.5" W 11" D (D63866)
