Souvenir typescript of ‘Duty, Honor, Country,’ General Douglas MacArthur's speech to the Corps of Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, on May 12, 1962, during his acceptance of the Thayer Award. The typescript, four pages, 8.5 x 11, is signed at the top of the first page in blue felt tip, “W. C. Westmoreland,” to whom MacArthur first addresses his speech. In part: “Duty, Honor, Country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying point to build courage when courage seems to fail, to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith, to create hope when hope becomes forlorn.” In fine condition, with some light scattered stains.
