Union general (1819–1898) who, after a long string of victories, was defeated at Chickamauga and relieved of his command. ALS signed “W. S. Rosecrans,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.25 x 8.5, March 1, 1872. Letter to John Allen Campbell, governor of the Wyoming Territory. In part: “I had the very great pleasure of receiving your wedding cards. Mrs. R. joins me in warmest felicitations…Joint navigation of the bark of married life we know its joys and sorrow and dare say: Earth has nothing better to offer.” In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned engraved portrait.
