Union general (1819–1898) who, after a long string of victories, was defeated at Chickamauga and relieved of his command. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite three-quarter length portrait of Rosecrans in uniform, by Brady’s National Photographic Portrait Galleries of New York, signed in the lower border in black ink, “W. S. Rosecrans, Maj. Gen.” In very good to fine condition, with some silvering and moderate speckling to the image.
