<B>William Percy French (1854-1920)</B><BR>THE GARDEN THAT I LOVE<BR>signed twice and dated [10 September 1917] lower right; inscribed with title and price (£1-10) on reverse<BR>watercolour on artist's board<BR>18 by 25cm., 7 by 10in.<BR>The title is a quotation from Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892): "Not wholly in the busy world, nor quite / Beyond it, blooms the garden that I love". An earlier, slightly larger work by the same title was sold through these rooms, 19 November 2002, lot 62 (€14,000).<BR>
