Made from elm of tongue and groove construction with brass pins, measures 4 1/2"Lx2 1/4"Wx1 1/8"H. The inside lid in pen is marked "1841 H.S. Gardiner This Box", small amount of wood lost on bottom back
right corner, accompanied by a letter of Provenance signed by H S Gardiner, 9/14/1815 stating that the box was made of root of the tree under which William Penn made his famous treaty to the Indians. This is the only
treaty with American Indians which has never been broken. Truly a rare and historic piece of American History. Includes several pictures of the Penn Monument and the original documentation from Gardiner.
