<B>William Morris Hunt Autograph Letter Signed.</B></I> Signed: <I>W.M. Hunt,</B></I> one page, Milton, Massachusetts, nd (after 1855). This letter was written to a Mr. Doll, in which he writes about an exhibition of the Governor's portrait: <I>I want you to try the Governors portrait on an Easel in the other end of the room or a corner of the other end - As the light does not seem satisfactory</B></I> In 1855 Hunt returned to his native New England, after about 10 years in Europe, where he became closely linked to Millet and the Barbizon school. A versatile artist, he became a popular portraitist and also introduced contemporary French painting to Boston. Hunts works now hang in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. In very fine condition; mounted onto a sturdy backing sheet; usual folds are present; light overall toning; foxing visible in the lower portions.
