Moore (1735–1793) served as president of Pennsylvania from 1781–82. Matlack (1730–1829) was an American merchant, surveyor, architect, statesman, and patriot in the American Revolution. Manuscript vellum DS, signed “Wm. Moore, President,” one page, 29 x 8.5, March 14, 1782. Upon receipt of “one pound, nineteen shillings & five pence lawful money, paid by Thomas Proctor,” Moore grants him “a certain tract of land called Bernick,” situated Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Signed at the conclusion by Moore and countersigned by Timothy Matlack, “T. Matlack, Sec’y.” Complete eight-point paper Pennsylvania state seal is affixed to the lower right, with a few folds to points and moderate soiling. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, moderate scattered soiling, clipped upper corners, and a few chips and tears to the edges.
