Uncommon double-sided newsprint flyer distributed by the Union Veterans' Patriotic League to rally support for Republican presidential candidate William McKinley, one page, 8.5 x 11, reproducing two of McKinley's front-porch speeches delivered to Ohio Civil War veterans on August 12 and 13, 1896. The earlier speech, with image of McKinley as a private, is headed "For the National Honor. Major McKinley's Ringing Words to his Comrades in the 23d Ohio Volunteers," in part: "My comrades you are just as loyal to country now as you were to country then; and as you stood from '61 to '65 for the preservation of the Government of the United States, you stand to-day just as unitedly for the honor of the Government and the preservation of its credit and currency." The reverse side features "Major McKinley's Address to the 104th Ohio Volunteers," and reads, in part: "Sectionalism has given place to national spirit, and patriotism has smoothed the asperities of partyism, while the preservation of he national honor constitutes the great aim and purpose of all patriotic American citizens." Includes the original Union Veterans' Patriotic League mailing envelope. In very good condition, with light staining and small areas of paper loss.
