Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 16.5 x 13.25, April 14, 1898. President McKinley appoints James H. Bolton as “Surveyor of Customs for the Port of Sioux City, in the State of Iowa.” Boldly signed at the conclusion by McKinley and countersigned by Secretary of the Treasury Lyman J. Gage. Double-matted to an overall size of 21.25 x 18. In fine condition, with some slight brushing to start of McKinley’s signature; otherwise the document is unusually crisp and clean.
