This brief letter, signed during McKinley's second term in the U.S. House of Representatives (1885-1891), reads in full "A. E. Allen, Esq. Trenton, N. J. / Dear Sir: I have received your favor of Aug 7th, for which you will please accept my thanks. / Yours truly" and signed "<I>Wm McKinley Jr</B></I>".
