<B>William McKinley: Classic "National Wheelman's Club" Jugate For McKinley & Hobart.</B></I> This 1¼" beauty is one of the favorites of the many 1896 jugate designs among collectors. It shows the candidates superimposed over a bicycle wheel. Bicycling was at its height of popularity in 1896, and a number of enthusiasts groups seemed to have had a political orientation. Interestingly, virtually all of the many 1896 items with bicycling themes supported the Republican ticket. This particular variety is notoriously prone to various condition problems, and one must often make a list of pluses and minuses in evaluating an example. This one is perfectly centered and has as vivid a coloration as any we have seen. While the overall appearance is near-mint, we must note some small surface bumps, seen only when the light hits at a certain angle.
