Elizabeth was an American born artist who trained at the School of Fine Art in Boston. Leech met her in Concarneau circa 1909 and they were married in London in June 1912. She was the model for many of his best known works including The Cigarette and The Tinsel Scarf (L'Actrice) (both in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin), and The Sunshade and A Convent Garden (both in the National Gallery of Ireland).
