In this classic flower composition, Leech has deployed his trademark diagonals and ‘birds-eye-view’ to great effect. The vase of marguerite daisies - with light glancing off the petals and through the glass vase - delights the eye at the same time that it leads the viewer down into the garden scene below. Here can be seen the birdbath, featured in a number of his works, and a folding garden chair; it is a glimpse of the serene sanctum of Leech’s London home.
